The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. By awarding scholarships, it offers researchers at different career stages the chance to undertake research in Germany.

Research Grants – Short-Term Grants

Research scholarships for a shorter stay of one to six months with a monthly payment of 1,200 euros are available for very well qualified doctoral students and young researchers. Funding is provided for a research project or continuing education course at a state university or non-university research institution.

Research Grants – One-Year Grants

Anyone wishing to proceed with a research project within the scope of a doctorate can apply for an annual scholarship.

Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists

This scholarship provides funding for seven to ten months. Research scholarships are also available for university lecturers and researchers who work at  a university or research institution in their home country. Funding in the research Stays programme is granted for a period of one to three months, with monthly payments of 2,000 to 2,150 euros.

Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders

Anyone who received DAAD funding in the past, either on a one-year or full PhD scholarship, can apply to
the Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders; the maximum funding period is also three months with monthly payments of 2,000 to 2,150 euros.
