The Right Livelihood College (RLC), ZEF, at the University of Bonn, Germany, organises the workshop “Mobilization for Change: Human Rights, Governance and the Empowerment of the Marginalized” from 2 - 7 September 2017. The event takes place in Bonn. Distinguished scientists, practitioners and PhD students from all over the world will be participating together Laureates of the “Alternative Nobel Prize”. Workshop language is English. The workshop will be conducted in cooperation with the Association of German Development Services (AGdD).
The workshop will focus on research and practice concerned with human rights, governance and marginalized people in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Particular focus will be given to the nexus between economic development, ecological balance, and rural livelihoods of marginalized people. Case studies of participatory empirical research will be presented, discussed and analysed in a cohesive transdisciplinary way by building on each participants’ expertise and experience.
The workshop will target the following objectives:
- to strengthen knowledge and understanding of concepts and methods of human rights and governance research and practice,
- to critically assess its role for the empowerment of marginalized people in this context,
- to discuss PhD research findings concerned, and
- to promote transmission of expertise and experience between PhD students, development experts, and “Alternative Nobel Prize” Laureates.
The DAAD workshop scholarships will cover all costs for international and national travel, hotel accommodation, catering, and working materials. The workshop will be embedded in a variety of social and cultural side-events.
Who can apply?
PhD students from Latin America, Asia and Africa who conduct empirical research related to human rights, governance and empowerment of marginalized people from all scientific disciplines. Preferred are PhD students in the middle or end of their studies. Fluent English is mandatory. Applications from women are particularly welcome.
